Things to remember and what to bring

What to Expect: Clinical Trial Visit Checklist

Each study has its own requirements. Here are some general tips to prepare for your screening visit.

The Leeds Recruitment team will have talked through anything you need to know beforehand and will send you all the documentation you need. But in case you need a quick refresher, or just want to know more about what happens when visiting the clinic, here is a checklist of do's and don’ts.

Before coming in for a screening appointment please adhere to the following:

Do's

Bring photographic proof of identity. Check the two lists below to see if you have an acceptable method as this will differ if you were not born in the UK.

  • Born in the UK: A passport, driving license or Fortrea ID form are the only types of ID we accept. If you do not have valid ID you will need to get your GP to complete a form (UK Citizens only) to confirm your identification. Please call the recruitment or drop by the clinic to pick up one. Without this we will be unable to proceed with the appointment.
  • Born outside the UK: You must present a valid passport from the country of your birth at screening. Without this we will be unable to proceed with the appointment.

Bring your National Insurance Number (NI number) if you have not provided this to the recruitment team already.

Don'ts

Avoid alcohol, poppy seeds and grapefruit for 48 hours beforehand* as these can effect the test results.

Avoid any strenuous exercise like weight lifting or running a week beforehand* as this can affect the test results.

Avoid food and drink only water (usually about 6 hours*) prior your appointment. This means you will need to avoid caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, coke and energy drinks for 6 hours before your appointment.
